WHERE WE STAYED
UMAID LAKE PALACE HOTEL – AN ORGANIC RETREAT
ADDRESS: Jaipur-Agra National Highway, Kalakho, Post Office Kalakho, District Dausa – 303304
IN A NUTSHELL: Great food and great people, we received a Royal welcome!
TRIPADVISOR RATING: 4/5
OUR RATING: 4/5
The rooms at Umaid Lake Palace were very basic and felt neglected, they didn’t seem like they were a part of this grand hotel. The bathroom wasn’t a place you wanted to be in, the shower was leaking everywhere. The room was spacious but didn’t feel comfortable and the bed was hard. There was no fridge in the room and I didn’t see a hairdryer.
This was a stop-gap for us to break up the journey between Agra and Ranthambore, there is a beautiful stepwell nearby and there was a man selling tickets for a camel tour so perhaps there was more to see in the area than we knew of.
The hotel itself had beautiful grounds, we had a great tour around the vegetable gardens where Ethan was able to pick his own veg that they cooked for us that night. They also took us to their farm where they had a beautiful 15 day old calf.
SERVICE & FACILITIES: 5/5
The service was perfect, staff were incredibly friendly and made an extra effort with Ethan. We were pleasantly surprised when they lay on a different meal for us to that of the buffet the other diners had. Our meal had dishes made from the veg that Ethan had picked earlier that day. I can honestly say it was the tastiest food I’ve had in India.
Entertainment had been arranged in the evening for the tour group staying at the hotel and we were invited to join in even though we had booked separately.
There was a small Krishna temple on the grounds and guests were welcome to join in the evening prayer, which we found to be very uplifting. Ethan and I were given small bells and chimes to play along to the singing which we both enjoyed.
The wifi signal wasn’t great in the communal areas and there was no wifi in the rooms.
There was a very big outdoor pool but it was too cold for us to swim in.
VALUE FOR MONEY: 5/5
We paid £89 for one night’s stay which included dinner and breakfast, I thought this was great value given the size of the rooms and the quality of the meal.
